How to Update Nexus 7 to Official stock Android 4.2.2

Google just released its newest Android firmware which is the 4.2.2 JDQ39. In order to upgrade your Google Nexus 7, you will need to follow the entire process. Make sure that you havent skipped a step. This guide is good for novice and advanced Android users.

The newest update has some performance and stability improvements. In order to feel the new experience, you will first need to do some preparations.


  • Your Google Nexus 7 should have a firmware of Android 4.2.1 JOP40D. The upgrade cant be done if your firmware is lower than this.
  • Backup all important files by putting all of it on the devices internal SD card. You also have the option to put the files on your computer. This is necessary to avoid deletion.
  • Enable the USB Debugging option from your settings.
  • Disable all antivirus applications. This application sometimes messes with the updating process. You might have your device bricked.
  • If you have done all the precautions, then you are good to go for an upgrade.

Follow these steps to upgrade your Nexus 7 to the latest firmware.


  1. Download the JDQ39 firmware update zip file here. http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_nakasi/6ece895ecb23.signed-nakasi-JDQ39-from-JOP40D.6ece895e.zip
  2. Connect your device to your PC. Move the downloaded zip file to your devices internal SD card. After copying, disconnect.
  3. Turn off your tablet.
  4. Boot to FastBoot mode. This is done by simultaneously pressing Volume Up and Power. You will know that you are on FastBoot if you see a Start icon.
  5. Select Recovery Option. Press and hold Power and Volume Up buttons once again to enter Recovery Mode.
  6. You are already on the Recovery mode. Select the install zip from sdcard option.
  7. Seek for the JDQ39 zip file you just downloaded and click it.
  8. After the installation, you will return to the Recovery menu once again.
  9. Wait for it to reboot.

      Youre done! Youve successfully upgraded your Google Nexus 7 to Android 4.2.2.
