The Westlake U11 Parkside Panthers Travel Baseball Team is collecting new or used baseball and softball gear and equipment for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland, for kids between the ages of 6 and 18. This includes?bats, gloves, balls, tees, batting helmets, catching equipment, batting gloves, whiffle-ball bats and balls, tennis balls, baseball and softball equipment bags, general athletic equipment bags and hitting nets. The Parkside Panthers have teamed up with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland, Tony Cipollone (director of athletics for the Westlake City Schools), Brendan Zepp (head baseball coach for Westlake),?Tom Shiban (head softball coach for Westlake), the Westlake Recreation Department?and Westlake City Schools to make this happen.
The Parkside Panthers and the high school baseball and softball teams will be holding skills clinics for the kids at the B&G Club this spring?after they deliver the equipment and gear they have collected.

Crushers seek new host families for 2013 season
The Lake Erie Crushers are once again seeking friendly families to open their homes to host a player for the 2013 season.?The host family program is a great way for families to get involved with the community and with the Crushers organization.?This unique program rewards both the participating families, as well as the Lake Erie Crushers players. Once the players arrive in the community in the beginning of May, they quickly start training for opening day?on May 17. The players will have very little down time with spring training, long games and long road trips, and all they require of their host family is to provide a warm living space, a roof over their heads and a welcoming home. The?Westlake Recreation Department has openings for the men?s open division in the?spring basketball season. Teams will play 12 games plus playoffs on Sunday nights. Game times will be at 6, 6:50, 7:40 and 8:30 p.m. Entry fee is $350, payable to the city of Westlake, and the forfeit fee is $140, payable to Westlake Umpires. The game fee is $32 per game (cash only). There is a limit of 16 teams, and the deadline to enter teams is March 30. The season begins April 7. The Monday-Wednesday men?s league plays 18 games from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and the entry fee is $375. The Thursday men?s league plays 18 games (nine double-headers) from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and the entry fee is $375. The Friday coed league plays 18 games (nine double-headers) from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and the entry fee is $375. The Sunday men?s league plays 18 games (nine double-headers) from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the entry fee is $375. The Sunday coed league plays 10 games from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. and the entry fee is $225. Entry fees include all game balls. All teams must pay a $140 forfeit fee in addition to the entrance fee. All nonresidents must also pay a $20 nonresident fee. Game fees are $32. No team will be accepted into the league until entrance and forfeit fees are paid. Contract cards are due by May 4. The mandatory managers meeting will be held at 10 a.m. April 13 in the Westlake Recreation Center?s community rooms. Each team must have a representative at this meeting. The first-ever?Bay Athletic Boosters Snoball 5K Race-Walk and 1-Mile Fun Run will be held on Saturday, with a start and finish at Bay High School, 29230 Wolf Road in Bay Village.?Managed through Hermes Race Systems, the Snoball 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run will kick off at 9 a.m., with packet pickup and day-of-race registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. inside the Bay High School gym corridor. Preregistered participants will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt featuring a snowman graphic, a roll of Duck-brand duct tape and post-race food and beverages.?The preregistration cost for the Snoball 5K Race/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Run is $15 for students and $20 for adults. REM Youth Soccer Association is accepting players for the Spring-1 session. REM is a soccer-based program designed for children ages 3-7, which offers three different levels of play.?Beginner Tots is for ages 3-4, and is an introduction to soccer through exercise and social interaction.Intermediate Tots is for ages 4-6, and is a more soccer-skill-oriented program for boys and girls to improve their ball-handling skills, balance and coordination, while having loads of fun in the process.?Advanced Tots is for ages 6-7, and is designed for older rec and academy players looking for a more personal training session, to improve their overall skills.
